Energising Somerset – our UK battery facility in focus at local business breakfast event

Over 160 attendees joined us on Wednesday 29 October, at a ‘Business breakfast with Agratas’ event, hosted by Somerset Chamber of Commerce.

Guests gathered at The Canalside Conference Centre in Bridgwater to hear from our expert speakers, accompanied by presenters from Somerset Chamber, our construction delivery partner Sir Robert McAlpine, and UCS College Group. The event provided an opportunity to learn more about the development of our UK flagship battery manufacturing facility, at the Gravity site in Puriton, near Bridgwater.

Construction of the facility is well underway and is expected to support more than 2,200 direct jobs and around 7,500 supply chain jobs during the building stage. At full capacity, our site will support around 4,000 direct jobs, and once fully operational, it is expected to generate more than £700 million in economic value annually for the South West.

Local partners NG Bailey, T Clarke, Sir Robert McAlpine and UCS College Group also joined us in hosting dedicated stalls at the event, where guests had the opportunity to discover more about our exciting new venture.

Our team members Nick Cooper, Community Engagement Manager, and Glenn Hiscocks, Talent Acquisition Manager, presented an update on the project and explored the promising new career prospects it will bring to the area.

“It’s wonderful to see so many people interested in Agratas and the possibilities our new battery manufacturing facility will bring to Somerset. It truly is an important development and investment in the area, and it’s been a great opportunity to update the community on our progress and what’s still yet to come, alongside our local business community.”
David Crew, Managing Director, Somerset Chamber of Commerce, said:
“Somerset has many skilled and talented businesses who are ready to help deliver this exciting project. Our business breakfast was a sell-out and gave attendees a fantastic opportunity to hear directly from the main contractors and to find more about progress and opportunities on site. Somerset Chamber is looking forward to continuing to support local businesses, Agratas and its partners to mobilise and deliver this transformative project.”
